It is with most profound regret that the death is recorded at the age of 47 years of Mr AA Hone, Commissioner of Forests, on June 14th, 1948. Mr Hone's association with forestry dates back to 1917, when he entered the School of Forestry, Creswick. After graduation, he served as a field officer in the Victorian Department and later, at various times, held the positions of Silvicultural Officer, Working Plans Officer, and Chief Technical Officer. He gained the degree of BSc in Forestry at Adelaide University and, during a period of study abroad, the Diploma of Forestry at Oxford University. He was appointed Commissioner of Forests in 1946.
By reason of his wide and varied experience, and his wartime association with timber control activities in both State and Commonwealth spheres, Mr. Hone's work in his capacity as Commissioner was highly valuable to the State.
