Inner Bark
In about September 1970 the Social Club of the FCV published the first edition of its magazine, Inner Bark, as a medium for circulating the Club’s activities, introducing personnel, presenting items of interest and general ‘chit-chat’. It was available to anyone associated with the Commission.
Production quality improved with the May 1971 issue when the Commission approved the Club entering into an agreement with Central Publicity which, for the sole rights to advertise in the magazine, produced it free of cost. Inner Bark was published quarterly for several years in this format (the last to hand is the August 1975 issue) but reverted to an A4, monochrome, occasional publication from January 1978. Publication of the magazine continued sporadically until the Social Club was disbanded in May 1984 when the Forests Commission lost its identity through amalgamation into the Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands.
Extracts from Inner Bark that focus on FCV staff are available in a folder via the link below. A consolidated pdf containing all extracts is also provided. There is an Index with names and some notes available through the lower link.
