John (Jack) Thomas Dwyer
Jack was originally a dozer driver for the FCV when he applied to go to the (1956) Foreman’s School in Broadford. On completion of the 6 month course he was first posted to Heathcote then Warburton, Noojee, Gembrook, Warburton again then, in about 1962, to Matlock. He lived in the FCV camp at The Triangle where about six to eight other men lived during the week. Jack’s tasks were to supervise two sawmills, keep an eye on the pulp cutters, check sawlogs, run gradelines for roads and maintain the firebreaks. About 2 million super feet of logs were being extracted to the Matlock at the time; all green timber – no fire-killed material. He retired in 1974.
