One reassuring feature stands out in the otherwise stark and depressing report by Judge Stretton on the bush fires – respect for the heroism of forest officers… Judge Stretton also declared his belief in the moral integrity of the chairman of the Forests Commission (Mr Galbraith) who ‘found himself in the embarrassing position of being the truthful exponent of what he thought was a bad case.’ [A, 18/5/39] |
