"No man should be placed at the head of the Victorian State Forests unless he had been a bushman for many years." |
Nightmare policy
2 March 1939
The belief that the present policy of the Forests Commission was a nightmare to graziers, settlers and timber-workers was expressed by Peter O’Mara, Noojee contractor and timber-getter, before the Bush Fires Royal Commission today. ...‘Too many young city men were coming into the forests. They should have forest experience. No man should be placed at the head of the Victorian State Forests unless he had been a bushman for many years.’ See his testimony in the selected Royal Commission transcripts [S, 2/3/39] |
