Public Meeting Launches Citizens’ Appeal – Generous Response From All Quarters – Two Funds: Immediate Relief and State-Wide Effort – showing Practical Sympathy to Unfortunate Sufferers – Large Attendance at Public Meeting Called By Mayor. At a public meeting called by the mayor (Cr Walter Selwood) on Monday night a citizens’ appeal was launched and a generous response was made by persons in every walk of life. Two funds were decided upon, one for immediate relief and one for the general appeal being made throughout the State by the Lord Mayor (Cr Coles). ...Generous offers of assistance have been made on every hand and the assurance that Colac will do its share in alleviating the lot of those unfortunate people, who lost their all in what is regarded as one of the blackest pages of Victoria’s history, goes without saying.
