The Christmas and New Year holidays passed off very happily, and most campers have returned to their homes. The dry spell still continues and several small creeks have dried up, and no prospect of rain. Bush fires, which have surrounded the district for the last week-end, have done untold damage to timber and grass. Those who have not seen a lyre bird can do so now, if they go to Flour Bag and walk along the burnt country for 100 yards or so.

Since the fire the birds have no hiding places, and can be seen in mobs of four and five on the burnt ground.
