While fire fighters were busy in the stricken areas the public of Melbourne was showing its sympathy in a practical and generous way, with the result that immediate relief measures have been organised, and help in the form of foodstuffs, from the Red Cross Society, the State Relief Committee and the Housewives’ Association of Victoria. The Red Cross Society sent a representative to Toolangi with a load of foodstuffs, and two more men to Erica with 300 women’s and children’s garments, 50 pairs of shoes, and bed coverings.
