Fire Fiend at Dromana
Forty-three Houses Destroyed – Campers drive into the Sea
9 January 1939

Yesterday was the blackest day in the history of Dromana, when a fire, fanned by a strong north-westerly wind, swept from the hills on to the outskirts of the town.

After destroying forty-three houses, the fire jumped Point Nepean-road, and roared through the undergrowth and tea-tree on the foreshore, forcing campers to drive their cars into the sea to escape destruction.
