"What the next few months may have in store we do not know. Little rain has fallen in the last six months."
The Weekly Times

A Cheerful Outlook
7 January 1939

Much has been heard during the last few months regarding the unhappy consequences of the drought conditions which have prevailed, particularly in Victoria. Without seeking to minimise the troubles which have beset the men on the land, for they have been truly serious in many instances, it is well to remember that, as a people and as a State we have endured worse experiences in the days gone by.

...What the next few months may have in store we do not know. Remembering, though, that we have passed through two successive dry years, and that, in most districts, little rain has fallen in the last six months, there is every justification for believing that good soaking downpours will not be much longer delayed.
