The Holidays
6 January 1939
The holidays passed by uneventfully so far as Mansfield was concerned … The weather continued hot and dry, with the atmosphere laden with smoke from bush fires burning in the hills, these being large fires at Toombullup and on the Howqua and Goulburn watersheds... The country is all on fire between the two branches of the King River, and is spreading north and south. Much money has been subscribed, and it remains with the administration to get 'a wriggle on'. The rainfall for December was 74 points, and the total for the year was 3107 points, which is about 13 inches below our average. [MC, 6/1/39] |
