Bush Fire
25 November 1938
A bush fire, which commenced to the south of the Prince’s Highway, west of Moe, on Sunday, was fanned by a north-westerly wind and travelled through the Moe Rifle Range. The storing sheds and contents, targets, etc., were destroyed, the damage being estimated at £20. When the fire-bell was sounded, the brigade was, as usual, on the job in record time – four minutes – and as a result of their efforts and those of townspeople, who gathered in a large number, no further serious damage was done. By night, the fire swept across to Moe South, and its bright reflection could be seen for miles. [NSA, 25/11/38] |
