Research Branch Report No. 003
The nutrient status of 1-0 P. radiata seedlings in the Benalla, Koetong and Rennick nurseries. F.G. Craig. May 1971. 9 pp. (unpubl.)
SUMMARY
- Fertilizers are needed in all three nurseries to maintain soil fertility, although there were no serious nutrient deficiencies in any of them. At Koetong however, magnesium and sulphur concentrations in the seedlings were quite low.
- At Koetong, the seedlings contained unusually high concentrations of aluminium which can cause internal phosphorous deficiency unless remedial action is taken. The heavy gypsum treatments presently being applied at this nursery should help rid the soil of this unwanted and toxic element, and at the same time improve the supply of sulphur to future crops.
- Fertilizer recommendations have been made for the treatment of areas producing P. radiata seedlings in 1970, and these are given at the end of this report.
