Research Branch Report No. 002
Multi-resource forest development in Victoria – a review of research needs. J.G. Edgar and W.G. Schmidt. April 1971. 55 pp (unpubl.)
SUMMARY
This report reviews the general levels of research in the fields of forest recreation, hydrology, wildlife and conservation. The recommendations given by others for further research and development in these fields are considered.
General assessments of the likely order of increase in demand for recreation are made and the land areas required by the year 2010 estimated on the basis of desirable standards.
Specific multiple-use research areas are suggested. Co-operative research is recommended wherever possible. Research in conjunction with the development and publicising of recreational facilities is also recommended. Overall work should be directed toward allowing optimising techniques to be applied to the whole multi-resource system.
