Research Branch Report No. 264
Regeneration survey methods and stocking standards for eucalypt forests in Victoria. B. A. Wehner. November 1984. 12 pp. (unpubl.)
SUMMARY
This report reviews regeneration survey methods and makes comparisons between the four-milacre stocked quadrat method presently used in eucalypt forests in Victoria and alternative methods that are presently available.
A number of deficiencies are identified in the four-milacre stocked quadrat method that justify further investigation of possible alternatives. Some other survey techniques have characteristics that may make them more suitable for regeneration surveys in Victorian eucalypt forests. Also, consideration needs to be given to the development of new methods.
Rigorous comparisons are required between existing methods available for regeneration surveys, to determine their relative suitability in Victoria. New methods need to be developed to simplify, as far as possible, the task of determining the adequacy of regeneration in a harvested and regenerated coupe. This work is proceeding.
