Research Branch Report No. 007
Effect of log size and defect on log value; report on Otways Defect Study, 1971. I. S. Thompson. October 1971. 16 pp. (unpubl.)
SUMMARY
This report presents predicting equations for monetary recovery and sawing cost based on a sample of 66 Eucalyptus regnans logs from the Otway Ranges.
Log value increased rapidly with increasing girth, less rapidly with length. The presence of defect indicators on the log surface is associated with logs of lower value.
The information obtained from the study is weak with regard to sawing pattern and derivation of costs. There is some confounding of the effects of log size and defect.
