"The family came to Victoria Vic in 1937 and dad got a job on a mill at Erica at Sharp’s No 2 on the Thompson Valley tramline. Other mills there were Morgan, Northern No. 1, Northern No. 2. There was a school at the Northern No.2 with 50 students."

"In 1938 we moved to the Murrindindi forest to the Erica Hardwood Sawmill Co mill. There was no school here so I spent most of my days at the mill blacksmith shop helping the blacksmith and learning a bit of smithing. My mother ran the mill boarding house. At this mill steel benches were just coming in and one was put here."
